Yankee Clippers Shearing
Since 2008 Colin has been working to become a professional shearer. He sheared his first sheep at age 14 and has been captivated ever since. After a heartfelt attempt to pursue a career in the dairy industry, Colin came to realize his true passion was still in shearing. In the spring of 2017 Siri began picking up a handful of flocks as she noticed a need for more shearers in the area. It took a full season before she was wholly committed to becoming a skilled shearer but she’s never looked back. With our combined experience and love for the craft, there’s nothing else we’d rather be doing.
As shepherds ourselves, we understand the concerns that can come along with shearing day. We maintain animal comfort and a quality clip as our top priorities. Our goal is to leave sheep and shepherd happier than when we showed up. We’ve put together some good practices you can follow for a successful shearing.
Odds and Ends
How far will you travel?
We are currently accepting new clients in Vermont, Massachusetts, southern New Hampshire, and New York (North Country, Capital region, and some Central).
Which species do you shear?
While our specialty is sheep we do a number of Angora goats each year as well. If you have only goats or goats along with sheep please let us know in advance. We do not shear llamas or alpacas.
How much will it cost me?
Our pricing is based on flock size and how far we have to travel. Head to the ‘Contact’ page from the Shearing menu above to view that.
When should I contact you to schedule shearing?
The earlier you reach out to us, the better. Begin the scheduling process by submitting a Jotform (linked on the ‘Contact’ page). We begin booking the first half of the year in January then open up booking the second half of the year in July. Do not wait until the last minute! Very rarely can any shearer get to you within a month of your first contact. We are usually booked at least two-months out.
I’m not sure when’s the best time for my sheep to be shorn. Can you help?
Give us a call or send a message and let us know about your sheep. Every breed and management system have different needs that we can help you through. Ultimately it’s up to you to juggle production schedules, infrastructure, weather, and wool quality goals but we’re happy to offer our advice from servicing many tens of thousands of sheep over the years.
